Since 1 December 2025, the car and bike driver theory test (category BW) offers a voiceover in 21 languages.

For many people living in Ireland, this makes the test far more accessible.

How the voiceover works

The questions still appear on screen in English. On top of that, you can listen to the full voiceover in the language you picked when booking.

Part of the test Language
Question text on screen English (Irish is also available)
Answer options on screen English
Voiceover The language you chose at booking
Road sign names and technical terms Shown in English on screen

In practice you understand the question by ear and confirm it by reading. Learning the key English terms still matters.

Study tips for a bilingual test

Practise the way you will sit the test: English text, audio in your language.

  1. Listen first. Understand the situation through the audio.
  2. Read the English text. Spot the words you already know.
  3. Keep a word list. Road types, signs and manoeuvres have fixed English names.
  4. Time yourself. Listening to every question takes longer than reading. 45 minutes for 40 questions is a little over a minute each.
  5. Revisit mistakes the next day. Repetition locks in the English term.
